Your vote.

Voting sets a first-party browser cookie to limit repeat votes in the same poll. We store your choice, its time, and a hashed browser identifier. This is a fun research poll; it doesn’t verify anyone’s identity. Clearing cookies or using another browser can allow another vote.

Your feedback.

Your message, category, optional email, and submission time are stored privately for the Back Perch crew. Email is optional and used only to follow up on your note. Messages aren’t published, and sending one doesn’t join a mailing list. Please leave sensitive information out of your message.

Pop-up updates.

If you explicitly sign up, we store your email, consent time and wording version in Cloudflare D1 to send Back Perch specials and pop-up announcements through Cloudflare Email Service. Signing up is separate from voting or sending feedback. Every announcement includes an unsubscribe link. We keep your subscription until you unsubscribe; a minimal suppression record remains so future announcements skip you. The crew can see subscriptions and delivery status. Replies go to Ryan.

Our analytics.

We count page views by page and day in Eastern time. We don’t use third-party analytics or advertising trackers. These counters don’t contain your name, email, or a browsing profile. We respect your browser’s Do Not Track setting and filter known bots.

Storage and security.

The site runs on Cloudflare. For abuse prevention, we temporarily store counters keyed by hashed network identifiers. Cloudflare also processes requests under its own privacy practices. Admin access uses a secure session cookie that expires after eight hours.

Feedback and page-view counters are retained for up to one year and cleaned up as the site receives traffic. Poll votes remain with their poll history. To ask about or request removal of a message, speak to The Back Perch crew at The Drunken Parrot in St. Cloud.
